It's two in a row for Brookfield Academy junior Kelsey Hojan-Clark; just like last year, she's been named the Swimmer of the Year by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. See this:

It also points out the difference in coverage that swimming gets in Milwaukee as opposed to Madison. The Madison paper just doesn't devote resources to any ongoing coverage of swimming.
The WI State Journal usually does a round-up of all fall athletic teams and performances; it usually includes swimming. But it's often well into the winter sports season before it's published. The paper waited until about half-way through the girls season to run their preview this fall.
FYI -- with any luck, the boys D1 and D2 season previews should be posted today.
It's nice to continually hear the updates on Kelsey. She deserves all the accolades this season. Two amazing swims in Divsion 2. Faster than Divison 1!!!!
The Milwaukee paper posts an update on swimming every single week during the season. Its not always in depth, but its a lot more than we get in Madison. The local papers of course are even better, but they have less competition. The Madison paper seems to think it must cover all the UW sports, which is understandable, but also all the pro sports in the state especially the Packers and Brewers, plus lots of column inches on things like Nascar. Papers in smaller towns don't try to be the state's official Packers and Brewers news source, and so they have room and resources to cover truely local sports. In short the WSJ is trying to be a big town paper, but in a small town market.
Agreed -- and as long as we're on the topic, kudos to those small-town papers that do a very good job of covering their local high school athletes, and not just football and basketball. The Door County Advocate, the Daily Jefferson County Union in Fort Atkinson, the Sheboygan Press, the Janesville Gazette, the Racine Journal Times and several others cover high school swimming pretty darn well.

Any ideas how we can arrange for both Brookfield Academy and Madison East to swim in the same meet next year? It tops my wiscswim.blogspot holiday wish list this year!
