35th annual Packer Relays -- another tie

Another invite, another tie. Last weekend it was the Hillmen Invite in Platteville that resulted in a tie between Madison Edgewood and Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights.

Last night it was the Packer Relays at Cudahy -- one of the longer-running meets in the Milwaukee area -- that saw Oak Creek and Franklin come away at the end of the all-relay meet tied with 154 points. Oak Creek clinched the meet tie with a win in the meet's final event -- the 100-yard free relay -- edging out Franklin by .22 seconds.

Franklin's sophomore Josh Lefeber continued his fine season for the Sabers with some strong swims. Notably, he came from nearly nine seconds behind on his anchor leg of the 300-yard breaststroke relay to pull out a win with a 1:02.59 anchor leg.

Other meet highlights this week:

-- New Berlin topped Shorewood 102-81 Tuesday, winning 10 of 12 events (NB's margin was pushed up as the team swept the diving portion of the meet and its 13 points. The swimming portion of the meet was 89-81). Alex Rodenkirk and Jason Johnsen continued their strong seasons for the NB co-op with two wins each (Rodenkirk: 200 free -- 1:50.50; 500 free -- 4:59.53/Johnsen: 100 fly -- 55.28; 100 breaststroke -- 1:04.22), and swimming legs on the team's winning medley and 200 free relays. Shorewood's Jay Tomasiewicz (200 IM -- 2:06.79) and Stephen Meyer (56.50) prevented the NB sweep. The two teams will see each other again next week at the Woodland Conference meet.

-- Fort Atkinson topped Monona Grove Tuesday 93-77 in a meet that saw some close races go Fort's way. For FA, sophomore Wyatt Paull picked up wins in the 200 free (1:52.07)and 100 free (50.23), as did junior Evan Hill in the 50 free (23.28) and 100 fly (57.01), the latter in a terrific race with MG sophomore Jack Allen (57.28). With the win, Fort kept its place tied atop the Badger Conference South standings (with Madison Edgewood and Milton) heading into next week's conference meet. MG's 200 free relay racked up another impressive win with a time of 1:32.37, second among D2 teams in the state according to the WISCA top-30 list.
