Latest state polls

After a flurry of big meets this past week, the new state polls are out (http://www.wisca.net/polls). Here they are:

D1

1: Hartland Arrowhead -- 493 points
2: Waukesha South/Catholic Memorial -- 487
3: Madison Memorial -- 442
4: Bay Port -- 435
5: New Berlin West-Eisenhower -- 340
6: Verona/Mount Horeb Area -- 325
7: Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights -- 316
8: Madison West -- 251
9: Brookfield Central-East -- 240
10: Wausau East -- 225

D2

1: McFarland -- 692 points
2: Shorewood -- 535
3: Whitefish Bay -- 491
4: Fort Atkinson -- 350
5: Cedarburg -- 323
6: Madison Edgewood -- 311
7: Monona Grove -- 308
8: Plymouth -- 298
9: Berlin-Green Lake -- 293
10: Milton -- 283

Thoughts: Pretty accurate portrayal of the landscape this year. D1 looks extremely close, with four teams -- Arrowhead, Waukesha S/CM, Memorial and Bayport -- separated by 58 points, which isn't that much. Then a jump-down to a second tier of teams, bunched fairly close together. From this glance, it looks like the Middleton and Waukesha South sectionals -- both with four top-10 teams -- look to be the most competitive this year.

In D2, three-time defending champs McFarland clearly have been the top squad this year, followed by neighboring rivals Shorewood and Whitefish Bay. The next seven teams are separated by only 67 points. As of this poll, the Baraboo sectional has five of the top 10 teams in the state -- that's one tough sectional.
