Even more conference results

Here are some more conference results (and once again thanks to all who have emailed with results and tips):

-- Cedarburg won a wild North Shore Conference meet with 434 points, just edging Whitefish Bay (430) and Mequon Homestead (418). The Bulldogs used great depth in the 200 and 500 frees, and a two-win meet from Carl Newenhouse, to edge the Blue Dukes and Homestead. With the entire outcome of the meet on the line with the 400 free relay in the water, Homestead anchor Cody Burkard out-touched WBay anchor Chuckie Prestigiacomo by .16 seconds -- a proverbial eyelash -- to win the event, and hand Cedarburg the conference meet title (as the Bulldogs finished 3rd in the 400 free relay). A WBay win in the relay would've given the Blue Dukes the conference meet win. Full results here...

-- Badger/Big Foot took the Southern Lakes Conference meet at Platteville with 507.5 points; Elkhorn just edged Delavan-Darien for 2nd place, 415-411. Platteville coach Tom Caccia reports that, as host team celebrating the 30th year of the program, the awards at the meet were handed out by former Platteville/Lancaster swimmers. The award for the first event of the meet, the 200 medley relay, was given out by the team's first captain from 30 years ago. Former swimmers, some coming from as far away as California, Georgia and Michigan, presented all the awards at the meet. Said Caccio: "We got together for pizza last (Saturday) night and they had to throw us out of the place after five hours. Some of these guys hadn't seen each other for 25 years! It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my coaching career." A great idea. Full results here...

Too bad SB/SD is not accepted into a conference. They have asked and asked yet are not granted a conference to swim in. Not sure how that works but I don't understand why the WIAA can't step in and give them a chance to win a conference championship.
